Program Components

Classroom Theory - 15 Hours In-Person

  • Alberta Traffic Safety Act and Rules of the Road
  • Defensive Driving Principles and Hazard Recognition
  • Speed Management, Space Cushion, and Right-of-Way
  • Impaired, Distracted, and Fatigued Driving
  • Winter Driving, Emergency Situations, and Collision Avoidance

In-Vehicle Training (14 Hours)

  • Vehicle familiarization and pre-trip safety checks
  • Residential, urban, and highway driving
  • Lane changes, intersections, merging, and yielding
  • Parking techniques (parallel, angle, stall)
  • Mock road tests and detailed instructor feedback

Certification

Upon successful completion of the Class 5 Driver Education program, students will receive a Driver Education Completion Certificate eligible for insurance reduction under Alberta regulations.
